Palestine and Chile and Prison Abolition and Science Fiction
Dear friends,
I hope you are well and safe in these intense times. As bombs rain down on Gaza, I wanted to send you this video I produced recently based on an interview with a Palestinian union organizer. The workers' terminals depicted in this video are dehumanizing experiences - I tried to convey some of that in this short piece, as well as the power of workers everywhere to resist. You can watch it (and read the accompanying article) at https://mondoweiss.net/2021/05/this-may-day-palestinian-workers-call-for-us-solidarity.
I also recently produced a short film based on interviews with activists on the streets of Chile, fighting for systemic change. You can watch it (and read more) at https://wagingnonviolence.org/2021/05/how-chileans-went-from-jumping-turnstiles-to-rewriting-constitution.
I'm also thrilled to be part of producing a science fiction film about prison abolition! You can see a little more about it here, and in this announcement in Variety.
Also, earlier this year, I made a list of my favorite films of 2020 - you can read that list here. And see my list of all time best revolutionary films here. I also wrote an article about a big media organization that stole the words and ideas of a New Orleans civil rights lawyer, here. And you can see the video I made last year about New Orleans mutual aid and organizing, here.
I've also been re-reading this poem from June Jordan today. It's nearly four decades old, but still urgent.
Sending love and solidarity,
Jordan
